Game description:

Track & Field is the classic 1987 Olympic sports game developed by Konami for the NES. Famous for popularising the button-mashing genre, the game challenges players to compete across eight distinct events that test both raw speed and precise timing. The NES version expands on the original arcade release by combining the core athletic roster with new technical events, including Skeet Shooting and Archery.

How to Play

Your goal is to meet the qualifying time or distance in each successive event to avoid elimination. The core controls require rapidly mashing the A or B buttons (mapped to Z and X on your keyboard) to build up your speed gauge. When you reach the foul line, press any direction on the D-pad (arrow keys) to jump or throw. Events like Skeet Shooting shift the focus entirely to timing, using the action buttons to fire at targets instead of running.

Tips

  • In the Long Jump and Javelin Throw, aim to release at a 45-degree angle to achieve the maximum possible distance.
  • Do not stop mashing the run buttons once your athlete is airborne; continuing to press them will actively increase your distance and height.
  • During the Hurdles, time your jumps precisely at the last possible moment so you spend less time in the air and maintain your forward momentum.
