ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron is a 1993 platform game for the Sega Genesis, developed by Johnson Voorsanger Productions and published by Sega. A major departure from the slow-paced isometric exploration of the original game, this sequel is a vibrant, side-scrolling platformer. The story follows the alien duo back to their home planet of Funkotron, where they discover that rowdy human tourists from Earth have stowed away on their ship and are wreaking havoc. It is up to ToeJam and Earl to capture the invading Earthlings in jars and ship them back where they came from.
How to Play
Your main objective is to explore each level, track down the hiding Earthlings, and capture them by throwing jars. You can also collect presents for helpful items and locate hidden power-ups scattered throughout Funkotron. Playable in either single-player or two-player co-op mode, the game uses standard Genesis platformer controls. Move with the D-pad (mapped to your arrow keys), press A or C (typically Z or C on your keyboard) to jump, and press B (usually X) to throw jars. You can switch between controlling ToeJam or Earl at the start or let a friend join in.
Tips
- Search everywhere! Earthlings often hide in the scenery, such as in bushes, manholes, or trees. If you see something shaking or hear unusual noises, investigate it.
- Use your Super Jars wisely. Unlike regular jars, Super Jars can capture humans much faster but are in limited supply, so save them for tougher enemies or groups.
- In two-player mode, communication is key. Since you share the same screen, you cannot move too far apart from each other. Coordinate your jar throws to take down enemies quickly without taking damage.
