Game description:

Originally developed by Bullfrog Productions and brought to the Sega Genesis in 1995, Theme Park is a pioneer of the business management simulation genre. You are tasked with designing and running a profitable amusement empire from the ground up, placing pathways, rides, and food stalls while balancing the budget and keeping visitors happy. It requires careful attention to staff wages, stock levels, and research funding to unlock bigger attractions and turn a vacant plot of land into a worldwide phenomenon.

How to play

Your main objective is to increase your park’s value and visitor count so you can sell it and build new parks in more challenging locations across the globe. Use the arrow keys to move your cursor around the map and navigate menus. The Genesis A, B, and C buttons are mapped to your keyboard’s Z, X, and C keys, which allow you to place rides, cancel selections, and cycle through your management tools. Press Enter (Start) to pause the simulation and access the main dashboard.

Tips

  • Salt and ice: A classic strategy to boost revenue is to add extra salt to your fries to make visitors thirsty, then place a drink stall nearby with maximum ice to lower your overheads.
  • Patrol your mechanics: Rides break down frequently and can explode if ignored. Hire enough mechanics and manually assign their patrol areas near your most expensive attractions.
  • Prevent strikes: When staff demand higher wages, you will enter a negotiation minigame. Carefully offer a slight pay increase before the handshake completes to avoid a park-wide strike.
