Game description:

The Lost Castle in Darkmist (also known simply as Dark Mist) is a vertically scrolling fantasy action game released for the Arcade in 1986 by Taito and Seibu Kaihatsu. Playing as a lone knight, you must fight your way through a monster-filled, automatically scrolling castle to rescue a captured princess. The game blends top-down shooter mechanics with sword combat, challenging you to slash through waves of magical creatures while navigating the environment.

How to Play

Your objective is to survive the auto-scrolling levels, defeat the monsters in your path, and reach the end to save the princess. Use the Arrow Keys to move your knight. Press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start the game. Use Z, X, or standard action buttons (like Ctrl or Space) to swing your sword and attack.

Tips

  • Deflect projectiles: Your sword isn’t just for close combat; a well-timed swing can knock away enemy magic and projectiles.
  • Open chests carefully: Defeated enemies often drop treasure chests containing potions and power-ups. You must walk over a chest and wait a moment for the item to appear to collect it.
  • Watch the screen edge: The castle scrolls automatically. If you get caught behind a wall as the screen advances, you will lose a life, so keep moving forward.
