The King of Fighters ’95 is SNK’s 1995 Neo Geo arcade sequel that built on the 3-on-3 team battle format introduced a year earlier. Its biggest addition was “Edit Team” mode, which let players build a custom trio from any fighters in the roster instead of picking only from fixed national teams. The story also darkens considerably: Rugal Bernstein, the tyrant apparently killed at the end of the previous tournament, returns as the game’s mysterious, far more dangerous final boss, seeking revenge on the fighters who beat him. This entry also introduces Iori Yagami, the fierce rival to Kyo Kusanagi who would become one of the series’ most iconic characters.
How to Play
The objective is to defeat all three members of the opposing team to win the match. The game uses a standard arcade layout, typically mapped in the browser to Arrow Keys for joystick movement, and action keys (often Z, X, C, V or A, S, D, F) for the four attack buttons: Light Punch, Light Kick, Strong Punch, and Strong Kick. Use Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start.
Tips
- Build Your Team: Edit Team mode is the headline feature of ’95 â mix and match fighters from different countries to cover gaps in your lineup, rather than being locked into a pre-set trio.
- Power Gauge: Press and hold the punch and kick buttons together to manually charge your power gauge; a full gauge boosts damage and enables a Desperation Move.
- Dodging: Press Light Punch and Light Kick at the same time to perform a stationary dodge that lets attacks and projectiles pass right through you.
- Facing Rugal: Save your Desperation Moves for the final boss fight â Rugal hits far harder than any of the standard teams and punishes careless jump-ins.
