Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters is a 1-on-1 fighting game developed by Konami and released for the Sega Genesis in 1993. While Konami released games under the same title for the NES and SNES, the Genesis version is unique, featuring a darker tone, different mechanics, and an exclusive roster. Alongside the four turtles, players can fight as Casey Jones, April O’Neil, Ray Fillet, and the insectoid character Sisyphus. The game is known for its fast-paced combat and notoriously challenging single-player campaign where the turtles must rescue Splinter from Krang.
How to Play
Select your fighter and defeat your opponent in best-of-three 1-on-1 matches. Lower the opponent’s health bar to zero before the timer runs out to win the round.
- D-pad (Arrow Keys): Move / Jump / Crouch / Block (Hold away from opponent)
- A / B / C (Z / X / C or mapped keys): Attack and Taunt buttons
- Start (Enter): Pause
Tips
- Master Special Moves: Every character has distinct special attacks executed through specific directional motions followed by an attack button. Experiment to find your fighter’s optimal inputs.
- Play Defensively: The AI in the Genesis version is famously unforgiving. Rushing your opponent often leads to taking heavy damage. Block frequently and look for openings to counter-attack.
- Use Your Taunt: In this version, performing a taunt will actively drain your opponent’s special move gauge, limiting their offensive options.
