Released by Tecmo in 1991 for the Sega Genesis, Tecmo Super Bowl is a legendary sports game that perfectly balances accessible arcade action with authentic football excitement. Famous for being one of the first console football games to feature real teams and player rosters, it strips away the complex simulation aspects of modern titles in favor of fast-paced gameplay, high-scoring drives, and a streamlined playbook system that keeps the focus entirely on the field.
How to play
Your objective is to lead your chosen team to victory by outscoring the opponent through rushing, passing, and special teams. The game uses a simplified playbook where you select from a handful of run or pass options before each snap.

Tips
- Guess the play: On defense, if you correctly guess the exact play your opponent chose from the playbook, your defensive line will instantly break through to blitz the quarterback or stuff the run.
- Mash to win grapples: Whenever your player collides with an opponent for a tackle or block, rapidly tapping the action buttons determines who wins the physical struggle.
- Cycle receivers: When passing, you do not throw to a specific spot on the field. Instead, cycle through your eligible receivers and wait for one to get separation before committing to the throw.
