Tatakae Genshijin: Joe & Mac (known internationally as Caveman Ninja) is a classic 1991 prehistoric arcade platformer developed by Data East. Players take control of the titular green and blue-haired cavemen, battling through lush environments filled with aggressive rival tribes, flying reptiles, and massive dinosaur bosses to rescue kidnapped cavewomen.
How to Play
Your objective is to reach the end of each stage and defeat the large dinosaur or monster boss waiting there. The standard arcade controls apply: use the joystick (or arrow keys) to move, crouch, and aim your attacks. Use the action buttons to jump and throw your current weapon, which can range from bone clubs to boomerangs and stone wheels. You can also hold the attack button to charge up a larger, more powerful projectile, but be carefulโholding it too long will leave you temporarily out of breath and vulnerable.
Tips
- Charge your attacks: A fully charged projectile deals significantly more damage and covers a wider area, which is essential for taking down bosses quickly.
- Watch your health: Your health bar slowly depletes over time. To survive, you must constantly collect the fruit, meat, and other food items dropped by enemies.
- Use vertical space: Many levels have branching paths or upper platforms. Taking the high road often lets you avoid dense enemy ambushes on the ground.
