Swat Police is a 2001 arcade crosshair shooter developed by ESD that draws heavy inspiration from classics like NAM-1975 and Cabal. Playing as elite operatives Cruise or James, you run along the bottom of the screen while aiming a reticle to blast through 10 stages of terrorists, robots, and military machinery. Defeated enemies drop gold, which adds a rewarding twist: between stages, you can visit a shop to buy upgrades like body armor, special weapons, or support strikes to even the odds.
How to Play
Like most gallery shooters, you control both your character’s movement and your aiming crosshair simultaneously. You must balance returning fire with avoiding incoming projectiles. Default keyboard controls are:
- Insert Coin / Start: Shift / Enter
- Move & Aim: Arrow keys
- Shoot: Z
- Dodge Roll: X
- Bomb: C
Tips
- Master the dodge roll: Your somersault is essential for evading enemy fire and surviving dense boss patterns.
- Invest in armor: While heavy weapons are tempting, spending your shop gold on vests early on will drastically improve your chances of surviving the later stages.
