Super Wonder Boy – Monster World is a 1988 action role-playing platformer for the Sega Master System. Known in the West as Wonder Boy in Monster Land, it tasks you with guiding the hero Shion through distinct monster-filled lands to defeat the MEKA dragon. You will defeat enemies to collect gold, purchase upgraded armor and magic in shops, and navigate tricky platforming sections to save the kingdom.
How to play
Your objective is to survive each stage, battling enemies and upgrading Shion’s equipment before your health-draining timer runs out. Use the D-pad (mapped to arrow keys) to move, push up to enter doors, and press down to use active magic. Press Button 1 (Z) to attack with your sword and Button 2 (X) to jump.
Tips
- To uncover hidden gold, try jumping in unusual spots or attacking empty spaces, especially just outside of shops.
- Prioritize buying better boots early on; they significantly improve your jump height and make the platforming sections much easier to navigate.
- Collecting a sandglass item resets your health-draining timer. Avoid picking it up immediately if you still have plenty of time left on the clock.
