Game description:

Super Real Mahjong PIV is a classic arcade mahjong game released in 1993 by Seta Corporation. As the fourth mainline installment in the beloved Super Real Mahjong series, it centers around two-player Japanese riichi mahjong against animated opponents. The game is particularly famous for its high-quality cel-animated sequences, which were a hallmark of the series and set a high standard for arcade mahjong graphics in the early 90s.

How to Play

The objective is to defeat your opponent in a game of riichi mahjong by depleting their points. You must form a complete hand of 14 tiles (four sets and a pair) faster than your opponent. As an arcade game, use 5 to insert a coin and 1 to start. In the browser emulator, standard arcade inputs map to the Arrow keys for movement/selection, with Z, X, C and A, S, D serving as action buttons. For dedicated mahjong panel emulation, keys A through N may also map directly to individual tiles.

Tips

  • Defense is key: The AI in the Super Real Mahjong series is notorious for reading discards. If your opponent declares riichi, avoid discarding dangerous tiles unless you are one tile away from a high-scoring hand.
  • Aim for fast hands: Since this is a two-player format without the complexity of a four-player game, prioritize quick, simple hands like Yakuhai (value tiles) or Tanyao (all simples) to chip away at the opponent’s score before they can build a massive hand.
