Super Pitfall is a 1987 NES action-platformer published by Activision and a sequel to the classic Pitfall! series. Pitfall Harry descends into a sprawling underground world — dozens of interconnected screens of caves, tunnels, and passages — searching for his niece and collecting treasure along the way. It is one of the more ambitious NES games in scope, and one of the most demanding.
How to Play
Guide Harry left and right through the underground, jumping over gaps, climbing ladders, and shooting the enemies that block your path. Most foes kill on contact and the map is large and maze-like, so moving carefully and learning the layout pays off. Single-player only.
- Arrow keys — move left/right; ↑ to climb ladders and ropes
- X — Jump (NES A)
- Z — Shoot (NES B)
- Enter — Start / Pause
- Shift — Select
Tips
- Use your gun proactively — Harry fires horizontally across most of the screen, letting you clear enemies before they close in.
- Map as you go — the underground branches and loops back on itself; noting key ladders and colour changes keeps you oriented.
- Some gaps have invisible platforms — if a drop looks fatal but seems crossable, try stepping off the edge cautiously rather than leaping.
