Super Locomotive is a unique arcade action game developed by Sega in 1982. Famous for its energetic chiptune rendition of Yellow Magic Orchestra’s “Rydeen”, the game challenges you with a dual-screen format: an overhead map on the top screen to plan your route, and a side-scrolling view on the bottom where the fast-paced action unfolds.
How to play
Your goal is to guide the train safely from station to station. You must navigate the tracks while dodging red signals, enemy trains, trucks at level crossings, and aircraft. Use your directional controls to switch tracks and manage your speed. For defense, you can fire a steam weapon at airborne targets or activate a temporary force field. Be careful: using weapons and shields drains your energy bar, so you must pick up oil items scattered along the route to keep your reserves full.
Tips
Keep a close eye on the top map screen to anticipate track splits and incoming hazards before they reach your locomotive on the main view. Since your steam attacks and shields consume energy, use them only when absolutely necessary and prioritize collecting oil drops to survive the longer stretches between stations.
