Super Kick Off brings the incredibly fast, simulation-style football engine originally created by Dino Dini on the Amiga to the Sega Master System. Developed by Tiertex in 1991, this top-down soccer game is famous for its demanding, realistic ball control system where the ball does not stick to your player’s feet. Instead, you have to actively dribble and nudge it forward, making every pass and shot feel earned.
How to play
Your objective is to lead your team to victory in either friendly matches or a full Cup Mode. The Master System controls are simple but require practice: use the D-pad (arrow keys) to move your player and dribble the ball. Press Button 1 (Z) to pass or tackle, and Button 2 (X) to shoot. Pushing the D-pad while shooting allows you to add aftertouch (swerve) to the ball in mid-air.
Tips
- Master the dribble: Because the ball isn’t glued to you, slow down when turning and use short, controlled taps of the D-pad to keep possession.
- Use aftertouch: Bending the ball is essential for scoring. Hit the shoot button and immediately press left or right to curl the shot around the goalkeeper.
- Slide tackles require timing: A mistimed tackle will easily result in a foul or a yellow card. Anticipate the opponent’s movement rather than diving in directly from behind.
