Super Hydlide is an action RPG developed by T&E Soft, released for the Sega Genesis in 1989 as the third entry in the Hydlide series. It sends players into an open, non-linear world to explore towns, fields, and dungeons in real time, fighting monsters by walking into them and casting magic on the fly. At the start you choose one of several classes, such as fighter, priest, or wizard, each with its own starting strengths in combat and magic.
How to Play
Move your character with the D-pad to walk across the overworld and into buildings and dungeons. The action buttons handle melee attacks, spellcasting, and opening the menu to check equipment, stats, and inventory, while Start pauses the game and brings up your status screen. Beyond fighting, Super Hydlide tracks weight, fatigue, and the time of day: carrying too much gear slows you down, your character needs rest to recover stamina, and some areas and enemies only appear at night, so keep an eye on all three as you explore.
Tips
- Don’t overload your inventory â excess weight drags down your movement speed, so drop or sell gear you aren’t using.
- Rest regularly to restore fatigue; pushing on while exhausted leaves you weaker in a fight.
- Day and night change what you’ll find in the world, so revisit areas after dark if you’re stuck â some passages and monsters only show up then.
