Game description:

Released by Human Entertainment in 1995, Super Fire Pro Wrestling: Queen’s Special brings the legendary Fire Pro grappling engine to the SNES with a roster entirely dedicated to All Japan Women’s Pro-Wrestling (AJW). Instead of the typical fictionalised wrestlers found in other entries of the era, this installment features real-life icons of joshi puroresu like Aja Kong and Manami Toyota. The game retains the series’ signature isometric perspective and deep, timing-based grappling mechanics, offering one of the most authentic representations of 90s women’s professional wrestling available on 16-bit hardware.

How to Play

Unlike arcade-style wrestling games that rely on button mashing, success in the Fire Pro series comes from precise timing. When two wrestlers lock up, you must input a directional command and a strike/grapple button at the exact moment they make contact. Start with light attacks to wear down your opponent before attempting heavy slams or submission holds. The original SNES controls use the D-pad for movement, A/B/X/Y for attacks and grapples, L/R for breathing and 3D movement, plus Start/Select. In your browser, these are mapped to the arrow keys alongside Z, X, A, S, and Enter/Shift.

Tips

  • Pace your stamina: Constantly running or attempting heavy moves early will exhaust your wrestler. If you run out of stamina, you will need to pause and hold the ‘breathe’ button (L or R) to recover.
  • Master the lock-up timing: Do not mash the buttons. Wait for the exact frame the two wrestlers’ hands meet during a grapple to input your move.
  • Build momentum: Always stick to light grapples (like snapmares or body slams) for the first few minutes of the match. Attempting a finishing move on a fresh opponent will always be reversed.
