Game description:

Super Dropzone is a fast-paced horizontal scrolling shooter released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1995 by Eurocom. Serving as a 16-bit sequel to the classic Dropzone, the game puts you in control of a jetpack-equipped hero tasked with defending human scientists across the moons of Jupiter. As you fly over the surfaces of Io, Callisto, Ganymede, and Europa, you must blast waves of hostile aliens, catch falling scientists, and return them safely to your base. With its Defender-style gameplay, the SNES version introduces new screen-filling bosses, varied power-ups, and enhanced graphics while maintaining the intense, arcade-style action of the original.

How to play

Your objective is to protect the scientists roaming the moon's surface from alien abductors. If a scientist is grabbed, you must shoot the alien and catch the scientist before they hit the ground. Return rescued scientists to the surface base to score points. The default SNES controls are mapped to your keyboard:

  • D-pad (Arrow Keys): Fly in any direction
  • Y / B (Z / X): Fire your main weapon
  • A (Shift): Trigger a screen-clearing smart bomb
  • Start (Enter): Pause the game

Tips

  • Watch the scanner: The radar at the top of the screen is essential for tracking off-screen enemies and spotting scientists in danger of being abducted.
  • Manage your smart bombs: You only start with a limited supply of smart bombs. Save them for emergencies when you are overwhelmed or when trying to quickly rescue a high-value scientist.
