Game description:

Super Chinese 3 is an action-RPG hybrid released for the NES in 1991. Continuing the adventures of ninja protagonists Jack and Ryu, the game blends traditional overworld exploration and town interactions with real-time, overhead beat-’em-up combat. Unlike standard turn-based RPGs of the era, enemy encounters throw you into an arena where you must punch, kick, and use ninja items to defeat waves of foes.

How to play

As a Japanese-exclusive Famicom release, some menus may require a bit of trial and error to navigate, but the core combat is straightforward action. Use the Arrow keys (D-pad) to move on the overworld and in battle, Z (A button) to punch or confirm menu choices, and X (B button) to jump or cancel. Navigate towns to upgrade your gear, then use your quick reflexes to survive the brawler-style random encounters.

Tips

  • Take time to level up in the early areas; building your stats makes the fast-paced combat encounters much more manageable.
  • Use your jumping attacks to avoid getting surrounded and to effectively crowd-control groups of enemies.
