Game description:

Developed by Compile and released in 1992, Super Aleste (known as Space Megaforce in North America) is a highly regarded vertical scrolling shoot ’em up for the Super Nintendo. It pushes the console’s hardware with fast-paced action, massive enemy sprites, and impressive scaling effects. As the pilot of an advanced fighter craft, you must battle a hostile alien armada using an extensive arsenal of eight distinct weapon types, making it one of the most mechanically rich and visually impressive shooters of its era.

How to Play

Your objective is to survive waves of enemy forces and defeat massive bosses at the end of each stage. Collect numbered orbs from 1 to 8 to change your primary attack, ranging from lasers and homing missiles to expanding circular shields. Standard SNES browser controls use the Arrow keys for movement. The face buttons (typically mapped to your keyboard’s Z, X, A, and S) allow you to fire, deploy bombs, and change your weapon’s alternate firing mode. Press Enter to start or pause the game.

Tips

  • Weapon Shielding: Your power level acts as your health. Taking a hit while powered up will downgrade your weapon level rather than destroying your ship instantly, so prioritize collecting matching weapon numbers to build a buffer.
  • Shot Control: Make sure to experiment with the shot control button. Each of the eight weapons has an alternate firing mode or formation, such as focusing a spread shot forward or locking your options in place.
  • Score Tokens: Collect the small orange chips dropped by destroyed enemies. Gathering enough of them acts as a secondary progression system and can grant you an extra life or a smart bomb.
