Game description:

Developed by Kyugo and A.I., Super Airwolf is a 1991 hybrid action shooter released for the Sega Genesis in Japan. Rebranded as CrossFire in Western regions to remove its television license, this original Japanese release retains the official Airwolf branding and its iconic theme music. The game stands out by combining two distinct styles of gameplay into a single operation, challenging you to master both aerial vehicle combat and on-foot infantry assaults.

How to Play

Missions are split into two phases: a vertically-scrolling shoot ’em up where you pilot the advanced helicopter, followed by a ground-based run-and-gun segment where you infiltrate enemy bases on foot. In the browser, use the arrow keys to maneuver your vehicle and soldier, the Z, X, and C keys to fire weapons and deploy bombs, and Enter to start. Your objective is to survive the intense aerial gauntlet, land at the target site, and blast your way through the compound to rescue hostages and destroy the enemy command.

Tips

  • Conserve special weapons: Your helicopter’s secondary weapons are highly destructive but limited in supply. Save them for overwhelming waves or tough defensive emplacements.
  • Adapt to the pace: The gameplay shifts drastically between the fast, forced-scrolling aerial sections and the more deliberate, maze-like ground combat. Be ready to adjust your strategy and utilize cover when on foot.
