Stunts is a 3D racing game for DOS from 2001 that hands you the keys to both a variety of vehicles and a comprehensive track editor. Instead of just competing on standard circuits, you can build and drive on outrageous custom courses featuring loops, corkscrews, massive jumps, and elevated bridges. The challenge lies in mastering the physics and handling of your chosen car just enough to survive these extreme architectural hazards.
How to play
Your objective is to reach the finish line as fast as possible without crashing, which destroys your car and forces a restart. You can race against the clock or face off against AI opponents. The game is controlled using the same keys as the original DOS release, typically the arrow keys to steer, accelerate, and brake. For the best experience, press ‘Right Alt’ + ‘Enter’ at any time to toggle fullscreen mode.
Tips
- Commit to the loops: Entering a loop requires high speed to maintain centrifugal force; if you lift off the accelerator or brake mid-loop, your car will plummet.
- Land jumps straight: When hitting a ramp, make sure your steering is perfectly centred. Landing at an angle will almost always result in an immediate rollover or crash.
- Test as you build: If you are creating a custom track in the editor, test each complex segment immediately after placing it to ensure it is actually passable.
