Streets of Rage is a classic beat ’em up released by SEGA for the Sega Genesis in 1991. You take control of one of three ex-police officersโAxel, Blaze, or Adamโto clean up a city overrun by a criminal syndicate led by Mr. X. Known for its gritty urban setting and a legendary electronic soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro, it remains one of the defining co-op action games of the 16-bit era.
How to Play
Fight your way through eight stages of city streets, battling waves of gang members and bosses. You can pick up weapons like steel pipes and baseball bats, as well as food items (apples and roast chickens) to restore your health.
Use the arrow keys to move. Press X to attack, Z to jump, and S to call in a screen-clearing police backup attack. You can grapple enemies by walking directly into them. Press Enter to start the game.
Tips
- Save your Special Attacks: You only get one police backup per life, so save it for bosses or when you are completely surrounded by enemies.
- Master the Grapple: Walking directly into an enemy initiates a grab. From there, you can pummel them up close or throw them over your shoulder, which is incredibly useful for knocking down other enemies behind you.
- Vault Over Enemies: While grabbing an enemy, press the jump button (Z) to vault over their head. This allows you to safely perform a suplex from behind.
