Game description:

Released under Sears’ Tele-Games label in 1981, Stellar Track brings the classic mainframe Star Trek experience to the Atari 2600. Rather than action-oriented combat, this turn-based strategy simulation puts you in command of a starship navigating a galaxy divided into quadrants. By using a clever programming trick to display text on a console never designed for it, the game stands out as a unique, deeply tactical entry in the platform’s library.

How to play

Your objective is to systematically clear the galaxy of enemy ships within a limited number of stardates, balancing your energy between movement, weapons, and shields. The game relies on a text-based interface where you select numerical commands using the joystick to manage your ship’s systems.

Tips

  • Manage your energy carefully: Moving and firing both drain your reserves. Always ensure you have enough energy allocated to shields to survive an enemy attack.
  • Use long-range scanners: Regularly check your long-range sensors to locate enemy clusters and plan an efficient route through the quadrants, saving valuable stardates.
