Game description:

Starflight is a sprawling space exploration RPG released for the Sega Genesis in 1991 by Electronic Arts and BlueSky Software. Commanding a starship on a vital mission to save humanity, you explore a massive sandbox galaxy of 270 star systems and 800 distinct planets. As a pioneer of the open-ended space adventure genre, it requires you to gather resources, negotiate with alien races, and piece together the history of a mysterious ancient civilization.

How to play

Your objective is to explore the galaxy, mine minerals, trade for better ship equipment, and discover the source of the dangerous flares destroying star systems. In the browser, the standard Sega Genesis controls apply: use the Arrow keys for movement, Z, X, and C for action buttons (A, B, C), and Enter for Start to access your ship's menus.

Tips

  • Take meticulous notes on planetary coordinates and alien communications, as the game does not track all clues for you.
  • Focus on upgrading your cargo space and engines early. Mining safe planets near your home system is the best way to build your initial funds.
  • Approach unknown alien vessels cautiously. Raising your shields or arming weapons immediately can be interpreted as a hostile act by certain species.
