Space Pilot (1982) is a multi-directional arcade shooter that serves as a well-known bootleg of Konami’s classic hit, Time Pilot. Piloting a futuristic jet, you travel through different historical time periods, battling waves of era-specific enemy aircraft ranging from World War I biplanes to futuristic UFOs.
How to play
The objective is to survive the onslaught of enemy fighters, rescue stranded pilots for bonus points, and destroy the boss mothership at the end of each era to warp to the next time period. Use the arrow keys to steer your jet in any of the eight directionsโyour plane is always in motion and the screen scrolls continuouslyโand press the Z or X key to fire your weapons.
Tips
- Your jet cannot stop moving, so constantly steer in wide arcs to avoid getting cornered by enemy formations.
- Keep moving diagonally when enemies fire at you; their shots are typically aimed at your current position, making erratic flying your best defense.
- Focus fire on the boss motherships as soon as they appear, but watch out for smaller escort fighters trying to ram you.
