Space Invaders 90 (released in North America as Space Invaders ’91) is a 16-bit update to the classic fixed shooter, developed by Taito and released for the Sega Genesis in 1990. While keeping the core mechanics of blasting waves of descending aliens, this version introduces new features like a personal shield for your ship, varied enemy types, and power-ups dropped by UFOs to help you survive the onslaught.
How to Play
Your objective is to pilot your starfighter and destroy all alien invaders before they reach the bottom of the screen. For Sega Genesis games played in the browser, use the Arrow Keys to move your ship left and right, press Z or X to fire your weapon, and use Enter to start the game.
Tips
- Shoot the UFOs that occasionally fly across the top of the screen to collect temporary power-ups, such as homing bombs and defensive weapons.
- Your ship now has a personal shield that can take up to five hits, so you can afford to be a bit more aggressive than in the original arcade version.
- Be prepared for later stages with shifting terrain that can force you to alter your firing angles and movement strategy.
