Space Gun is an intense sci-fi first-person rail shooter released for the Arcade by Taito in 1990. Set aboard a crippled, alien-infested space station, your mission is to blast through waves of hostile creatures to rescue the surviving human crew members. With an atmosphere heavily inspired by classic sci-fi horror films, it stands out for its detailed graphics and the ability to systematically dismember the advancing alien threats.
How to Play
As a rail shooter, your movement through the corridors is mostly automatic. Your objective is to aim and shoot at the alien creatures before they can damage you, while being careful not to accidentally hit the human hostages you are trying to save. In the browser emulator, insert coins using Shift and press Enter to start. Use the Arrow Keys to move your crosshair and press Z or X to fire your weapon. The original arcade cabinet featured a unique foot pedal that allowed players to step backward from enemies; you can use the corresponding mapped button to reverse your direction when overwhelmed.
Tips
- Your weapon relies on an energy gauge rather than traditional ammunition. Avoid holding down the fire button constantly so your energy has time to recharge between encounters.
- Prioritize rescuing human hostages, as successfully saving them will restore a portion of your health.
- Aim for the limbs of larger alien enemies to slow them down and reduce their attack capabilities before finishing them off.
