Game description:

Sonic Wings Japan, originally released in 1992 for the arcade by Video System (and later known internationally as Aero Fighters), is a classic vertical-scrolling shoot ’em up. Players choose from a diverse roster of international pilots, each flying unique aircraft with distinct weapon spreads and screen-clearing bomb attacks. The game is celebrated for its fast-paced action, memorable character designs, and challenging enemy encounters that laid the groundwork for the modern shmup genre.

How to Play

Your objective is to survive waves of enemy fighters, ground forces, and massive end-of-stage bosses while dodging intense bullet patterns. As an arcade title, use the browser controls to add credits and play. Press Shift to insert a coin, and Enter to start. Move your chosen aircraft using the Arrow Keys. Press Z to fire your primary weapon and X to unleash a devastating screen-clearing bomb.

Tips

  • Use your bombs defensively: Don’t hoard your bombs. Using a bomb not only deals massive damage but also provides a brief window of invincibility to help you escape tight bullet clusters.
  • Prioritize power-ups: Focus on upgrading your main weapon as early as possible by collecting the “P” items. Maintaining maximum firepower is crucial for defeating later bosses before their attack patterns become overwhelming.
