Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is a landmark 1994 platform game developed by Sega Technical Institute for the Sega Genesis. Players once again control Sonic and Tails, this time exploring the mysterious Angel Island after the crash of the Death Egg. The game introduces Knuckles the Echidna, a new rival who constantly lays traps and disrupts your progress as you attempt to stop Dr. Robotnik from relaunching his orbital weapon.
How to Play
The objective is to reach the end of each act, using momentum-based platforming to run through loops, collect rings, and defeat a boss at the end of every zone. The Sega Genesis controls are mapped to the browser: use the arrow keys to move or crouch, and the Z, X, or C keys to jump. Pressing jump again in mid-air activates Sonic’s Insta-Shield or Tails’s flight. Press Enter to start or pause the game.
Tips
- Use Elemental Shields: The Fire, Water, and Lightning shields offer immunity to specific hazards. When playing as Sonic, they also provide unique mid-air abilities, like a forward dash or a double jump.
- Find the Giant Rings: Keep an eye out for hidden walls and alternate paths. Finding and entering the Giant Rings hidden throughout the acts is the only way to play the Special Stages and collect Chaos Emeralds.
