Sonic Spinball is a 1993 pinball platformer developed by Sega Technical Institute for the Sega Genesis. Instead of traditional high-speed platforming, Sonic acts as the pinball in a massive, multi-level fortress. Your goal is to dismantle Dr. Robotnik’s Veg-O-Fortress and rescue the captive animals within by mastering the pinball physics.
How to play
The objective is to collect the Chaos Emeralds hidden throughout each pinball table to unlock the boss room and progress to the next level. Use the directional pad to nudge Sonic’s trajectory mid-air, and press A, B, or C to activate the left and right flippers. In the browser, these are mapped to your arrow keys and the Z, X, and C keys.
Tips
- You have limited control over Sonic while he’s curled in a ball; use the directional pad to influence his momentum and aim for specific ramps or emeralds.
- Pay attention to the multi-flipper setups on the board. You often need to catch Sonic, let him roll down, and transfer him between flippers to reach higher areas.
