Released in 1993 by Aspect for the Sega Master System, this fast-paced platformer marks the first time Tails is playable in an 8-bit entry. You can choose between the hedgehog’s blistering speed and the fox’s ability to fly, navigating diverse zones to stop Dr. Robotnik from seizing the Chaos Emeralds.
How to Play
Your objective is to reach the end of each act within the time limit while collecting rings and defeating badniks. When playing as Sonic, you can use his signature Spin Dash and the Strike Dash for a quick burst of speed. If you choose Tails, you can fly over obstacles and reach higher platforms, making the game slightly easier for beginners. For the Sega Master System emulator, use the D-pad (Arrow keys) to move, A/B (Z/X keys) to jump, and Start (Enter) to pause.
Tips
- Use Tails to explore: Tails’s flight makes it much easier to find hidden monitors and alternative routes, especially in levels like Mecha Green Hill Zone.
- Rocket Shoes: Look out for the Rocket Shoes monitor when playing as Sonic. They grant temporary flight, which is crucial for accessing certain secrets and rings.
- Special Stages: To enter a Special Stage and earn a Chaos Emerald, you must collect exactly 100 rings in a single act as Sonic. Tails cannot enter Special Stages or collect Chaos Emeralds.
