Released for the Arcade in 1986 by Tecmo, Solomon’s Key is a notoriously challenging puzzle-platformer. You play as Dana, a wizard who must navigate through 50 intricate rooms to find the titular key and restore world peace. The game stands out for its blend of fast-paced action and brain-teasing puzzles, requiring you to master the ability to conjure and banish blocks at will.
How to play
Your objective is to grab the key in each room and reach the exit door before the timer runs out. Use the arrow keys to move, the Z key to create or destroy blocks with your magic wand, and the X key to jump. Press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start.
Tips
- You can break blocks with your head by jumping into them from below, which is often faster than using your wand.
- Study enemy movement patterns. Many foes can be trapped between blocks or redirected by altering their path.
- Collect the bell items to release a fairy; rescuing enough fairies will grant you an extra life.
