Slaughter Sport, also known as Tongue of the Fatman on other platforms, is a 1991 sci-fi fighting game for the Sega Genesis where players battle extraterrestrial gladiators in an intergalactic tournament. Unlike traditional fighters of the era, the game features a distinct economy system that allows you to purchase weapons, stat boosts, and magic spells between matches to tip the odds in your favor against an increasingly bizarre roster of opponents.
How to play
The objective is to defeat a series of alien fighters and ultimately challenge the tournament master, Mondu the Fat. Combat uses the directional pad for movement and jumping, while the face buttons execute basic punches, kicks, and character-specific special attacks. After each victory, you earn prize money which must be spent wisely in the shop to acquire items like health recovery, weapons, or temporary power-ups before the next bout.
Tips
- Do not hoard your winnings. Buying power-ups and items between matches is practically required to defeat the tougher, later-stage opponents.
- Each alien fighter has a unique hit box and attack range. Play defensively at the start of a match to learn their attack patterns before moving in.
