Game description:

Slap Fight MD is a phenomenal enhanced port of Toaplan’s classic vertical shoot ’em up, released in 1993 for the Sega Genesis. Originally an arcade title, this MD release includes both the authentic original game and a completely revamped “MD Mode” that introduces new levels, rebalanced gameplay, and an incredible new soundtrack composed by Yuzo Koshiro.

How to Play

The game features a strategic power-up system similar to Gradius. As you destroy enemies and collect stars, a gauge at the bottom of the screen advances. Press the power-up button to activate the currently highlighted upgrade. You can choose to increase your speed, enhance your main shot, or equip powerful lasers and homing missiles. Control your ship with the arrow keys, use the action buttons (typically Z and X) to fire and activate power-ups, and press Enter to start.

Tips

  • Watch your hitbox: As you equip more weapons, your ship physically expands in size, making it a much larger target for enemy fire. Balance your firepower with your ability to maneuver through tight spaces.
  • Don’t rush the shield: While the shield offers great protection, activating it requires passing up many earlier offensive upgrades. Sometimes a stronger offense is better for survival early in a stage.
