Bart vs. the Space Mutants is a side-scrolling platformer developed by Imagineering for the NES, released in 1991 at the height of Simpsons popularity. Aliens have infiltrated Springfield disguised as ordinary people, and only Bart â armed with x-ray specs â can see through their cover. Each of the game’s five stages charges him with collecting or destroying a specific category of object before the invaders finish their mind-control machine.
How to Play
A counter in each stage tracks how many target objects remain. Clear the quota before reaching the exit to advance; fall short and you backtrack. Bart can jump on enemies, use a spray can to tag objects, and pick up items throughout each stage.
Controls (Player 1): arrow keys to move and duck, X to jump (NES A), Z to use an item (NES B), Enter to start or pause, Shift for Select.
Tips
- Watch the quota counter constantly â it is easy to charge through a level and reach the exit short of target, forcing a long backtrack.
- The spray can in Level 1 is for tagging purple objects, not fighting enemies. Aim it at signs and walls that count toward the quota.
- Use your x-ray specs on suspicious characters to spot the aliens hiding among Springfield’s residents.
