Scramble is a classic side-scrolling arcade shooter, originally released by Konami in 1981 and faithfully ported to the Atari 7800. You pilot a spacecraft through a series of six distinct terrain stages, dodging and destroying enemy rockets, UFOs, and defense installations while constantly managing a depleting fuel supply.
How to play
Your ship constantly moves forward, and you must survive until the end of the final stage to destroy the enemy base. Your ship fires lasers forward and drops bombs downward. Keep a close eye on your fuel gauge; to replenish it, you must destroy the fuel tanks scattered across the terrain. Use the Arrow Keys (or D-pad) to maneuver. Press X (or Button 1) to fire lasers and Z (or Button 2) to drop bombs. Use Enter to Pause and A to Reset.
Tips
- Do not blindly spam bombs; time your bomb drops carefully to hit fuel tanks, as running out of fuel is often a bigger threat than enemy fire.
- In the tight cavern stages, prioritize smooth vertical maneuvering over attacking enemies, as crashing into the walls is instantly fatal.
- Watch out for rockets that suddenly launch from the groundโdestroy them before they take off, or quickly move out of their vertical path.
