Sagaia is a classic horizontal-scrolling shoot ’em up released for the Sega Genesis in 1991. Originally developed by Taito for the arcade as Darius II, this 16-bit port retains the franchise’s signature aquatic-themed robotic enemies and branching path structure. Players pilot the Silver Hawk starfighter through diverse stages, battling waves of enemies and massive bosses modeled after marine life.
How to play
The objective is to survive each stage by shooting down enemy forces, dodging incoming fire, and defeating the boss at the end of the zone. After clearing a boss, you can choose between two branching paths, offering different stages and replay value.
Default Genesis controls in the browser map the D-pad to the arrow keys for movement. Use the Z, X, or C keys (mapping to the Genesis A, B, and C buttons) to fire your main weapon and drop bombs. Press Enter to Start.
Tips
- Prioritize Power-Ups: Focus on collecting the colored orbs dropped by specific enemy formations. Red orbs upgrade your main shot, green orbs power up your bombs, and blue orbs grant a defensive shield.
- Maintain your Shield: The blue shield is crucial for survival, as it absorbs multiple hits before depleting. Try to keep it active and upgraded at all times.
- Watch Boss Patterns: Each aquatic boss has a specific attack pattern. Focus on dodging their projectiles first, and strike when their vulnerable parts are exposed.
