Game description:

Rolling Thunder 2 is a side-scrolling run-and-gun arcade game released by Namco in 1990, the sequel to 1986’s Rolling Thunder. Playing as secret agent Leila or her partner Albatross of the WCPO’s Rolling Thunder task force, you fight through eight stages against the revived Geldra organization, which is destroying the world’s satellites from bases disguised as a Florida seaside resort and an Egyptian pyramid.

How to Play

Move with the arrow keys, jump with Z, and fire with X. You start each level with a pistol carrying limited ammo; once it runs dry, your shots slow to a weak “chaser” bullet, so duck into a marked doorway to restock or pick up a submachine gun instead. Ammo does not carry over between levels, and doorway pickups leave a visible counter behind, so a second player can grab what you didn’t use. Enemy soldiers can only take you down after two hits, but any bullet or projectile is an instant kill, so staying out of gunfire matters more than trading blows.

Tips

  • Duck into doors as soon as your pistol goes dry rather than fighting with the weak chaser shot — the machine gun upgrade clears rooms far faster.
  • Since ammo resets every stage, don’t hoard machine gun rounds late in a level; use them up before you cross into the next one.
  • Prioritize dodging bullets and lasers over trading blows with melee enemies — a single projectile kills instantly, even though regular soldiers take two hits to bring you down.
