Game description:

Rohga: Armor Force is a run-and-gun platform hybrid released for the Arcade by Data East in 1991 (known in Japan as Wolf Fang: Kuuga 2001). This build carries the Hong Kong V3.0 revision of Data East’s original arcade board. Rather than a straight side-scrolling shooter, it drops you into a mech and lets you duck, jump, hover against slanted walls, and land on higher platforms as the battlefield scrolls past, closer to an armed platformer than a typical shmup.

How to Play

Before each round you pick a preset mech — a standard walker, a hovercraft, a four-legged walker, or a six-wheeled model — or assemble your own from separate primary weapon, secondary shoulder weapon, and leg parts. Your mech can take up to eight hits before you’re forced to eject, so watch your health as you fight through enemy formations. Along the way you can pick up friendly soldiers armed with rifles and jetpacks; they mount onto your mech and cover the blind spots your own guns can’t reach.

In the browser: move with the Arrow keys, fire with Z, jump with X, and fire your sub-weapon with C. Hold Z while pressing a direction to aim and move your gun independently of your mech’s facing, including angling it 45° upward. Use Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start.

Tips

  • Pick up soldiers early: The rifle-and-jetpack troopers that latch onto your mech add extra firepower aimed at angles your main weapons miss — grab them before an enemy wave arrives, not after.
  • Use the aim-hold to clear elevated threats: Holding fire and pressing up lets you angle your shots 45° without turning your mech, which is the safest way to hit gunners and turrets mounted above you.
  • Match your mech to the stage: The hover and wheeled configurations trade raw armor for mobility on the wall-hugging and platform sections — if you’re losing health to terrain rather than enemies, try swapping your build.
