Robotron X is a 1996 PlayStation reimagining of the 1982 arcade classic Robotron: 2084, developed by Player 1 and Leland Interactive Media and published by Midway Home Entertainment. It rebuilds the original’s twin-stick shooter into full 3D arenas, casting you as the hero Ugene defending the last human family from an onslaught of relentless robots.
How to Play
Your goal is to survive wave after wave of robots across 100 levels, rescuing stranded human survivors for bonus points along the way and grabbing power-ups — including shields and multi-directional fire — to help clear the swarm. The game carries over the arcade original’s dual-joystick feel: on the PlayStation pad, Arrow Keys (D-Pad) move Ugene while Z, X, C, and S (Square, Cross, Circle, and Triangle) fire your weapon in different directions independently of movement, and Enter (Start) pauses the game.
Tips
- Weigh every rescue: Grabbing stranded humans is worth good points, but wandering toward them can walk you straight into a robot’s line of fire — only go for a rescue when the path is clear.
- Grab power-ups immediately: Shields and multi-directional fire don’t last, and the swarm won’t slow down while you hesitate.
- Keep moving: Standing still is the fastest way to get boxed in; use your independent firing controls to shoot behind you while you retreat toward open space.
