Game description:

Rise of the Robots is a 1994 2D fighting game released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), renowned for its pre-rendered CGI visuals. Players take on the role of the ECO35-2 Cyborg, the only playable character in the main story mode, to fight through a gauntlet of rogue machines infected by a virus from the mysterious Supervisor. Despite its impressive graphical presentation for the era, the game became infamous for its stiff mechanics and limited combat options.

How to play: The objective is to defeat each opponent in one-on-one combat to advance to the next floor of the Electrocorp facility, eventually facing the Supervisor. On the SNES, use the D-pad (mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys) to move and jump. The face buttons execute basic punches and kicks (mapped to Z, X, A, S). Blocking is performed by holding away from your opponent on the D-pad.

Tips:

  • Because characters cannot jump over one another or turn around, managing the distance between you and the enemy is critical to landing attacks without getting hit.
  • With a limited set of moves available, mastering the basic flying kick is often the most reliable strategy to chip away at enemy health.
