RayForce (also known as Gunlock) is a classic 1993 arcade vertically scrolling shooter developed by Taito. Known for its intense action and stunning pseudo-3D visual scaling, it puts you in the cockpit of the R-V-S fighter on a desperate mission against a rogue supercomputer. What sets it apart is its dual-layer combat system, forcing you to manage threats both on your level and far below.
How to play
Pilot your ship through eight continuous stages, dodging enemy fire and destroying targets. You are equipped with a rapid-fire primary weapon and a distinctive lock-on laser. Use the crosshairs positioned below your ship to lock onto multiple enemies in the lower background layer, then unleash a devastating barrage of homing lasers.
Default Controls (Arcade): Move your ship using the Arrow Keys. Press Z (or your emulator’s primary button) to fire your main weapon and X to deploy the lock-on lasers. Use Shift or Enter to insert coins and start the game.
Tips
- Maximize your score: Try to lock onto as many enemies as possible (up to eight) before firing the lock-on lasers. The more targets you destroy in a single volley, the higher your score multiplier.
- Prioritize ground targets: Enemies in the lower layer often launch attacks that travel up to your plane. Take them out quickly using your lock-on system before their fire becomes overwhelming.
