Rastan Saga is the Japanese arcade release of Taito’s 1987 hack-and-slash platformer (known abroad simply as Rastan). Players control the barbarian Rastan, who takes on a quest to rid the kingdom of Ceim of its monsters, fighting his way across landscapes and castles filled with mythical creatures like chimeras and harpies before facing a fire-breathing dragon.
How to Play
The objective is to fight through each of the six rounds, climbing platforms, ropes, and pits to reach the boss throne room at the end. Arcade controls in the browser map the joystick to the arrow keys, with the sword slash on the Z key and jump on the X key. Insert virtual coins with the Shift key and press Enter to start.
Tips
- Rastan starts with only a basic sword, but picking up the mace, axe, or fireball sword gives a temporary but stronger weapon â grab them when you can, since their effect runs out over time.
- Watch for the shield, mantle, and body armor pickups. They absorb enemy damage for a limited time and are worth detouring for before a boss room.
- A golden sheep’s head fully restores your health gauge, while colored potions can either heal or drain it â only grab a potion if you’re sure of its color’s effect.
