Rally-X is a classic arcade maze chase game released by Namco in 1980. You drive a blue rally car through a multi-scrolling maze, with the goal of collecting 10 yellow flags before your fuel runs out. It stands out from early maze games by featuring a radar on the right side of the screen, which shows the locations of the remaining flags and the pursuing enemy red cars.
How to Play
Navigate your car using the directional keys to collect all the flags in each stage. A special “S” flag doubles the point value of subsequent flags collected in that round. To escape the red enemy cars, press the action button to deploy a smokescreen. Be careful: using the smokescreen consumes a significant amount of fuel, and if your fuel gauge depletes, your car will slow to a crawl, making you an easy target.
Tips
- Keep a close eye on the radar to plan your route efficiently and avoid being cornered by multiple red cars.
- Save your smokescreen for emergencies; deploying it too often will quickly drain your fuel.
- Avoid stationary rocks scattered throughout the maze, as crashing into them instantly costs a life.
