Pro Wrestling is a 1986 sports and fighting game released for the NES by developer TRY Co. As one of the earliest professional wrestling games on a home console, it introduced a robust grappling system and a memorable roster of six distinct wrestlers, each with their own signature movesโfrom Starman’s Flying Cross Chop to The Amazon’s illegal biting.
How to play
Your goal is to defeat a series of opponents to win the VWA (Video Wrestling Association) Championship, and then defend your title against increasingly difficult challengers. When you and your opponent lock up in a grapple, the first player to quickly input a direction along with the A or B button will execute a throw or slam. You can also strike, run off the ropes, and climb the turnbuckles for high-flying attacks.
- Move: Arrow keys
- Punch / Grapple Action (A): X
- Kick / Grapple Action (B): Z
- Select: Shift
- Start: Enter
Tips
- Success in grapples relies on timing rather than button mashing. Wait for the two wrestlers to fully lock up, then immediately press a direction and an attack button.
- Once your opponent is exhausted and takes longer to get up, approach them while they are on the mat and press the A button (X key) to go for a pin.
- Fighting outside the ring is allowed, but make sure to return before the referee’s 20-count, or you will be disqualified.
