Game description:

Piranha is a 1981 arcade game released by GL and distributed by U.S. Billiards. Though it runs on original Pac-Man arcade hardware, it is an unauthorized conversion kit that completely re-themes the classic formula. Instead of navigating a standard maze, players control a piranha swimming through wide-open underwater layouts, attempting to eat dots while avoiding squid-like enemies that replace the iconic ghosts.

How to Play

The objective remains similar to its inspiration: eat all the dots on the screen to advance to the next level. Use the arcade joystick (mapped to the directional arrow keys) to navigate your piranha through the open underwater stages. Be cautious, as the lack of walls makes it much harder to avoid the pursuing squids.

Tips

  • Watch your flanks: The open maze design gives you fewer corners to hide in, but it also means enemies can approach from multiple unpredictable angles.
  • Exploit enemy pathing: Because the game’s maze lacks structure, the squid enemies can sometimes become trapped or behave erratically. Use these quirks to your advantage when cornered.
