Game description:

This 1980 arcade fixed shooter is a bootleg version of the classic Phoenix, where players take control of a ship defending against descending waves of alien birds. As one of the earliest titles to feature distinct levels and a dedicated boss encounter, it remains an important piece of gaming history.

Your ship can move left and right across the bottom of the screen to dodge and fire at enemies. The gameplay is split across five distinct stages: two waves of small diving birds, two waves of larger alien birds that emerge from eggs, and a final showdown against a massive mothership. A key mechanic is your ship’s energy shield; activating it makes you temporarily invulnerable to enemies and projectiles, but completely immobilizes your ship while active. Since the original machine used standard joystick and button controls, it translates perfectly to modern arrow keys for movement, along with action buttons for shooting and deploying the shield.

When using your shield, remember that you cannot move, and it has a brief cooldown period before it can be used again. Save it for emergencies when you are cornered by diving enemies or unable to dodge a projectile. Against the final mothership boss, focus your fire on the center to slowly chip away its protective barrier until you can land a direct hit on the alien pilot.
