Paperboy is an iconic 1984 arcade action game by Atari Games, presented here in its classic DOS port. You take on the role of a bicycle-riding delivery boy trying to survive a frantic week delivering newspapers to subscribing houses in an increasingly hazardous suburban neighborhood. It combines fast-paced obstacle dodging with the precision of aiming folded papers at mailboxes and porches.
How to play
Your objective is to keep your subscribers happy by successfully delivering their papers, while you can optionally vandalize the homes of non-subscribers for extra points. Miss a delivery or break a window, and that house cancels their subscription the next day. Use the arrow keys to steer your bike, accelerate, and brake, and press the Spacebar to throw a newspaper.
Tips
- Look ahead for safe paths; braking or accelerating to change your speed is often more effective than swerving to avoid fast-moving hazards.
- Aim for the mailboxes instead of the porches for double points, but be careful not to accidentally break a subscriber’s window.
- Refill your newspaper supply by riding over the scattered bundles found along the street and sidewalks.
