Released by Taito for the NES in 1990, Palamedes is a fast-paced arcade puzzle game where you face continuously descending rows of dice. Instead of sorting falling shapes, your goal is to match values by cycling through the numbers on your own die and firing it upward, clearing the board before the blocks reach the bottom and crush you.
How to play
Your objective is to clear the descending dice and build poker-style combinations to survive. Use the D-pad (Arrow keys) to move left and right. Press B (Z key) to cycle the number on the die you are holding, from 1 through 6, and press A (X key) to launch it upward. If your fired die matches the number on the die it hits, it is eliminated from the board and added to your six-space hand at the bottom of the screen.
Tips
- Build hands: Collect matching dice to form pairs, three-of-a-kind, or straights (1-2-3-4-5-6) in your hand.
- Use special attacks: Once you have a valid combination in your hand, press Down on the D-pad to unleash it and wipe out multiple rows of descending dice at once.
- Pre-select numbers: Keep cycling your die number while you are moving into position, rather than waiting until you are directly underneath your target.
