Released in 1993 for the Sega Genesis by Namco, Pac-Attack is a unique falling-block puzzle game that combines the familiar ghost-eating mechanics of the classic arcade hit with strategic piece placement. Players must manage a board by matching blocks to clear rows, while simultaneously feeding ghosts to a falling Pac-Man piece to keep the screen from filling up.
How to Play
The objective is to prevent the board from filling to the top. Arrange the falling blocks to form solid horizontal lines, which clears them from the board. Ghosts will also fall; these cannot be cleared with lines. Instead, you must position the falling Pac-Man pieces so that they eat the ghosts in their path. Pac-Man will travel downwards and horizontally to eat adjacent ghosts until he gets stuck.
Controls (Sega Genesis): Use the Arrow Keys (D-pad) to move pieces left, right, or down. Press Z, X, or C (A, B, or C buttons) to rotate the falling pieces. Press Enter (Start) to pause the game.
Tips
- Group the ghosts: Try to cluster ghosts together so that a single Pac-Man piece can eat a long chain of them in one continuous path.
- Watch out for trapped blocks: Blocks placed on top of ghosts cannot be cleared until the ghosts beneath them are eaten, so avoid burying ghosts under tall stacks of blocks.
- Use the fairy meter: Eating ghosts fills up a meter on the side of the screen. When it is full, a fairy piece will appear that clears all ghosts in the lines below it, providing a great way to escape dangerous situations.
